Total pumpkin production of major pumpkin-producing states in 2004. Illinois, with a production of 457 million pounds, led the country. Pumpkin patches in California, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York also produced a lot of pumpkins: each state produced at least 70 million pounds worth. The value of all the pumpkins produced by these states was about $100 million. (Source: USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service at http://www.usda.gov/nass/

The total number for all the pumpkin producing states was 998 million pounds. Illinois seems to always lead the pack each year. In 2004 Illinois produced 457million lbs of pumpkins.
The other major pumpkin producing states (California, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Ohio) produced about 70 million lbs each.
I found this out in the U.S. Census Bureau link listed below.

Divide by the approximate population of the USA to see how much pumpkin each person eats in a year on average.

D: one-tenth of a pound, that's ridiculous, way too low.
A: a pound and a half a year, that's only about six portions, maybe just believable.
B or C: five pounds per person per year, say twenty portions, yes, that's much more believable.

Illinois 457,200,000 pounds
Califonia 140,400,000 pounds
Ohio 111,600,000 pounds
Michigan 100,800,000 pounds
Pennsylvania 130,000,000 pounds
New York 81,900,000 pounds
Total 1,021,900,000 pounds

The United States Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service shows a total of 1,021,900,000 pounds for those six states.

At a guess, I'd say 310,000,000 pounds. There are six states, that's 51,650,000 pound averaged. Over 12 months that would average 4,304,166 pound per month. This, consumed by the population of USA in one month, seems feasible.
