to those of you that think i shouldn't be asking this question...i work in a job where i have to describe and i.d. those who are causing nuisance. so for instance if i had to write a statement regarding a person that looked quarter cast then therefore i don't want to cause offence and would like to use PC

Political correctness has totally f*&ked up the world and the people in it........these PC muppets need to drag thier depressing selves into the 21st century and realise that it is them and there methods that are making this world a harder place to live in...
And to answer your question.....he/she is a half cast, mixed race, quarter cast....just call him/her what you want with out being rude.....if he/she becomes offended then it's tough sh1t on them.....

Quadroon is the correct term for someone with 4 different races in their background. You would obviously have to be certain before using the term Mixed race seems to be the least offensive term, but is it an essential part of the description you have to give? surely the fault is far more important than the origins of the person committing it? However if you do have to use a term I believe you are more than correct to inform yourself as to the correct ones and lets face it from some of the answers you have received you have a very good straw poll of peoples reactions.(if you ignore the obviously racist and or stupid) Good luck

I have never heard the term "quarter cast" nor would I ever use that term to describe anyone. Forget about being "politically correct". If you are describing someone's background, be more specific: for example; "She is of mixed heritage including Chinese, Italian, English and Irish."

Heinz 57. Or try 'of miscellaneous ancestry'. I don't approve of the PC thing. It's all very well categorising people by ethnicity, but when I fill in one of theose 'equal opportunity' forms I am only able to tick the box that says 'white'. And this is rubbish of course. I always put a cross through 'white' and put my real colour down - 'beige'. If you want to be polite to people, go by their country of origin and forget race completely.

This doesn't exactly explain how they determined that a phrase was "politically incorrect", as opposed to "politically correct" or neither of the two. I mean, was it through an algorithmic analysis of the content of the phrases - or did they just compile a list of "bad phrases" and "good phrases" based on nothing more than their own prejudices, then use Google to see which ones came up most often?

The older term is quadroon or quatroon. That would be seen as quite racist now though, and not PC. So the first suggestion of mixed race is correct.

Politically correctly speaking, mixed race is considered offensive (don't ask me why) - where anyone has mixed white and african or carribean heritage, then they are black, because that is a firmer identity than being "half of something and half of something else". It's ultimately a question of fashion - we are all human beings!

I think there is no P.C. answer to this as any suggestion that a someone with 3 white grandparents and 1 non white would probably wish to be regarded as white, my only friend from this racial group gets very hurt when her racial identity is discussed or noticed.

My g/f is 1/4 white, 1/4 Caribbean Indian and 1/2 black. She doesnt like mixed race, and prefers just black.

well, am a quarter catholic if that helps. we shouldn't be bothered what colour somebody is, lol, it's immaterial, tells you nothing about the person themselves.
most of us are mixed race one way or the other. ad stick to mixed race chuk, that is pc enough.
