Things are over packaged. We could use reusabe bags? so we should start reducing packaging of items and start using recyclable canvas bags. Do yahoo users agree. (refuse plastic, no thanks I do not need the waster of your bag?) I hate seeing them on the side of the road and in alley ways. We could always go a step futher, the technology for electric cars is out, A company named ZAP sells anice economical XEBRA and other cars. Why do we keep doing this to our planet, our beloved country. Why the states continue making stupid regulations, they need to regulate plastic bags and regulate the use of gas powered vehicles.

On refusing to use plastic bags... yes they are on the sides of roads and fill our landfills... and yes taking a canvas bag to the store can help... they can also be saved and taken to a recycling center... walmart \ has a recycling containers at their front doors to put any stores plastic bag in to be recycled...

I think we are all getting a wake up call this past year when gas price hit record highs... they have come out with the new hibreds and I think that is a start... change takes time... there are people out there that can't afford to buy one of these new hybreds... ten years from now when there are used ones on the cars lots... them being cheaper for low income people to afford them... maybe will see change then... change takes time, years... I know the government could do more... but the big gas companies sponser alot of these politians we have elected that aren't listening to us ...they listen to whos backing them... were are talking to deaf hears is the saddest part of the situation... it's going to take a global disaster for everyone to change... the ones that lives through the disaster....

That's a good point, but what I do is use them for my empty beer cans. That way after I fill so many up I can recycle both the bags and the cans all in one trip. I mean you can always do the same with paper sacks, but boy wouldn't that be a mess to clean up!!! Anyways, if you are trying to improve this planet...you are truly appreceiated and I pray for the best. There are not a lot of people out there willing to take a minute to care. Good luck!

If it's recyclable, I recycle it. Including plastic bags. I saw a documentary many years ago about the environment and have recycled ever since. It's great to see that so many people care and respect our surroundings.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. I see plastic bags all over the town. In streets, schoolyards, even parks and nature. I think that canvas bags are a good solution, they can be recycled, and if someone drops it, it decays with time.

My local Wal-Mart recycles bags for you. Maybe the problem is not the plastic bag, but the lazy loafer that refuses to take them to be recycled.

they should charge for plastic bags and just do re-usable bags not the cheap thin ones - that would encourage the consumer to re-use the same bag a few times rather than "Disposable bags" that aren't recycled or re-used just left as floating trash on the street

Here in the Uk one of our major supermarkets now will take back plastic bags and recycle them. They also encourage you to use your own bags and reward you with loyalty points.

The plastic bags I get at the store are what I use as trash bags. May be more of them, but they are free and tie easy.

One store charged people for plastic bags, so that would encourage people to bring their own.
