I write with both... it really depends on what I'm writing. I use a pen most of the time, but when I'm writing poetry, I tend to use a pencil because I usually change my mind a lot about what I wrote.

Always write with a pen and do figures with a pencil.

Pencils are really messy. One smudge, the whole paper looks dirty. Especially when you've filled out an whole paper, and decide to write on the back, with a paper underneath it, I hate how the ink goes on your other papers. But pencils are still useful if you know you're gonna make a lot of mistakes. Erasable pens are a great idea! I prefer pens better.

i prefer the pen also. i got used to using the pen more because when i was still working with the state dept i had to sign my name like a gillion times a day .. and only ink is acceptable when signing a signature. pencil is too easy to smudge or be changed. i won't use the pen that has the eraser just for that reason ....
