Some musicians may find inspiration when drugged up but equally we have lost many musicians at a young age through drug related deaths, they might have gone on to produce a lot of good tunes if they had sobered up.
Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Keith Moon etc.

This is a chicken and egg question. There are clearly enough sober musical geniuses out there that one can tell that financial success made harder drugs accessible to some of these rock stars. Many that died probably didn't know how to gauge the use like an already rich kid that had been sniffing and injecting whatnot before getting nowhere in life.

*Some* however, were not great muscians because of the drugs. but relied on the drugs to get on stage and deal with fear because they were really creative geniuses, but intraverted. As an intravert, I can agree that we probably like the idea of money, but fame is nightmare. They probably took drugs to avoid the situations they created for themselves.

Also keep in mind that for every one band that did drugs and happened to be famous, there are millions more that just plain suck. Those that made it to fame did it DESPITE the drugs.

It's the truth. And you forgot Aerosmith. And the Chili Peppers.

I think that they do the music and the drugs because they are insecure. The music rocks because they don't give a whooping funt because they are whacked out of there faces.

Eventually, they have enough money for things like rehab and counselling, which sorts their head out, which tames them somewhat and makes the music all sincere and nicey and just plain f*cking boring.

Being a tortured artist on drugs is much better for creativity. Works for me, anyway!

A lot of people in the music industry take drugs. To the person who said Green Day don't take drugs, get your facts right!

I disagree with you on the Beatles. I think that at the very least Paul, John, and George went on to make great music after they stopped taking drugs. Ringo wasn't as prolific as them so I couldn't really say anything about his music.

I agree with Strawman we have lost alot of good musicians because of drug related deaths.I don't think that you need to do drugs to be a good rock band. Illegial drugs are very bad for you!
