Does anyone know where I could find out if my hubby's birth parents are trying to trace him? He was adopted as a baby, but we don't know his full name before he was adopted or anything about his parents. We have tried searching a Births, Deaths and Marriages site but found nothing. Are there any websites that parents trying to find their adopted children post messages on?
He is not sure that he wants to contact them but would like to know if they are trying to find him before he decides what to do!

There are several sites that do this, but most of them charge, and so its a bit of a long shot. There is a national register, but it isnt well publicised and doesnt have very many contacts on it. You also have to pay for the information.

He should be able to apply for a copy of his original birth certificate and this should at least have his mothers full name on it, and his full name, at birth.

This was my starting point for finding my birth mother. From that and talking to my family, in a very circumspect way, I traced the agency through which I was adopted. Fortunately, they still exist, although in a very different guise. They offered couselling prior to releasing any information regarding the circumstances of my adoption. It was a hard 'interview' to go through, but at the end of it I was presented with a file. The file had ALL the information relating to my adoption - right down to medical certificates, court documents and the bills for the fees paid to the foster parents who looked after me during the court process!?!

Also in the file was a letter they had received from my birth mother, who had contacted them 10yrs previously in order to leave a trail for me to follow.

The agency, now a charity, did a check for me to ensure that the address details were still applicable (or to follow the trail from that last address). It took me another 6 months before I finally made contact with her, my birth mother.

I wish you all the luck in your search and appreciate that getting the information is pretty hard - but really the best source of information has got to be his family, they should have the original birth certificate and would have details of the organisation through which the adoption was made. Once you have the information the hard work is deciding what to do with it.

Good luck

His parents that raised him are his parents, not the ones who gave him up for adoption. There is many reasons that children are given up for adoption and i'm with your hubby on this one, I don't think i would want to contact them. It sounds more like this is something you want than what he wants. I've seen 2 times where people met there birth parents and both times it wasn't very good.

If your husband knows which Agency or Local Authority he was adopted through then they will be able to help him. He will be offered support and counselling and they will give him whatever information they have on his file.
