I live in a rented apt. On Monday, the dishwasher malfunctioned and flooded my kitchen which is carpeted (don't ask why). They cleaned the carpet with a professional machine but I don't think it was enough because last night it was still wet and it still smells. Can I get them to replace the kitchen carpet at their cost? I am afraid mold will develop and my baby who is crawling, will get sick.

you have every right to ask them to replace the carpet, you pay your rent and you are entitled to live in a safe place with your child. Ask the landlord and if he does not comply tell him that you will file a complaint and take the matter to court. Mold is a serious issue with a young child (and adults) so this does need to be fixed. Give it a day or so to dry out more and open your windows and door, if you still suspect mold contact your landlord and go from there. Try to keep this as peaceful as possible for as long as you can, use the lawyer as a last resort,

They need to at least dry it. There are dryers (water extractors) made just for that purpose. They need to pull up most of the carpet, and run the machine to remove the moisture overnight.

You may want to look into how long you have to do that. I believe there is a certain amount of time it needs to be done in order to prevent bacteria and/or mold.

if they completely cleaned your carpet, then it will be a little damp for a couple days, but if they were just pulling out the water, it may be damp, but if it's sopping wet, like it squelches when you walk on it, then it is definatly a good idea to call the company who cleaned your carpet about either finishing the job they didn't do or paying for a new carpet for you

just dry it - you and baby will be fine - not really big deal - but if it bothers you to the point of you must replace - u should not put carpet back in kitchen - use tile or something else.
