Didn't GWB just explain that there is no threat of invasion, no threat of violence, but yet NK is threatening "physical violence" if we continue to "push" them! WTF do they expect?! Oh sure! You just go ahead and continue building your nuclear arsenal on a bogus security threat, and the rest of the world is supposed to just sit back and pretend that NK is a peaceful country that has always cooperated so graciously in the past! Right! My grandfather was in the Korean War! I say, before we give them ANYMORE time to create their "defense", we, with the other leaders of the world, put the heat on! They think the USA is an issue? How about adding Russia, The UK, China, Spain, Germany, France, Japan, SK, and Canada (yes, Canada) to the mix?! Pyongyang needs a G*DD@MN bullet in his head!

Thanks for hearing me vent.:)

It would cripple them economically and militarily.
No money going in or out and no weapons parts.
The only way to keep sanctions from happening is to threaten war.
Technically we're still in a armed conflict with N.K., we're in a cease fire mode. But now they have had more than 50 yrs to rearm themselves.
Because the inneffectiveness of the U.N. is mainly why the world is in this state.
It's like telling your kid to stop it ...and then ignore them.

At this point the world is not yet united in coming up with a response. China has been an ally of North Korea for some time and they seem to still be weighing their response.

North Korea's assertion that they are in danger from us is nothing new. It has just received more momentum lately. First we declared them part of the Axis of Evil (most diplomats from both parties now view that comment as unfortunate), then we refuse to have any direct talks with them, then we invade the first of the "Axis of Evil" countries. It probably didn't take much for N Korea's leaders to convince the people that they could well be next.

Sanctions may or may not work. I'd like to try diplomacy though before we try 'putting a bullet' through anybodies head. It would be great if more young people could avoid going through what your grandfather and my father had to go through over there.

NKorea probably doesn't believe a word coming out of Bush's mouth. Since it seems that having a nuclear threat is such a big chip on the international table, a lot of countries that don't have them want them, and aren't so sure non-proliferation was such a good idea, since the countries that conned them into non-proliferation treaties haven't done much to disarm themselves.

But you are right, something does need to be done about NK, and keeping nukes out of counties that don't have them is something we should do. Since China has joined our side for sanctions (with conditions), and NK's test is believed to be a failure, we might be able to get them to the table soon. NK can't live without China's help--if we can finish swinging China on this issue there could still be a diplomatic solution. (I usually don't hold my breath for diplomatic solutions, but this one looks like it really has a chance.)

Wow! and vent you did!
I think North Korea wants bi lateral talks with the U.S. only because they know if they are in the 6 party talks they will HAVE to stick to whatever agreement that's made. If it's the U.S. alone, they won't be reneging on a deal that involves their partner China and other countries in the region i.e. South Korea and Japan. If they make an agreement with just the U.S. they won't feel obligated to keep that bargain and it just becomes a delay tactic.
Then they are able to build their nukes and use them on the country they made false agreements with. This all may be moot anyway, it is my contention that China is feeding into Kim Jung Il and are actually using him for their agenda- thus making him a blowhard dictating puppet. Guess we'll see.
Have a great day!!!

Kim Jong Il is not a stupid man but he is a short man with a short man's syndrome. More than anything, he wants respect from the super powers, and I think they understand that. The question is, how far will he go to get it? Sanctions mean nothing to him; he has let his people starve in the past and would have no compunctions about doing that again. He's well aware that the U.S. military is in no position to engage in a second front. He has more to fear from China and Japan. If the U.N. Security Council plus Japan (who is meeting with them as we speak) can come to a consensus, we may see the pliers applied to NK in a way that will truly squeeze Kim's gonads.

i ought to conform to the thought Iran is a robust foe. The Persian military is very disciplined, properly prepared and equipped by using the latest Russian tech. on the different hand maybe Israel posesses a deferential armory yet without the help or education of the american forces they'll adventure a ways too great loses than the Persians will. I advise the two sides to sit down down on the negotiating table by way of fact this could be a political undertaking. The George W Bush era is over. Greetings

I don't think it's the sanctions themselves so much as what such sanctions represent: they represent the US and the other "big guys" supposedly picking on the heroic "little guy" (NK). This is what you call a "persecution complex". The real answer is not to conquer them but to ignore them alltogether, because such behavior is usually performed for an audience. Conquering them would only encourage the paranoia of other countries towards the US &c.

G.W. Bush put North Korea on alert when he called them part of the axis of evil. NK felt threatened then and still does. Why would he believe Bush now? Bush lied to the world when he claimed Saddam had WMD and we must invade. Why would the world believe Bush now? Iran and North Korea think they are next after Iraq so they are preparing for the American invasion. Calling world leaders "evil doers" is childish and only created ill feelings.... and possibly war. Nice job, George.

In order to understand that, you would need to understand the twisted logic of the NK government. I am not twisted enough to understand it.
