I think that the likelihood of actual extraterrestrial visitors is very small. Therefore, I believe that UFO's are man-made things (such as experimental aircraft) which are *mistaken* for alien space-ships. I think that there IS other intelligent life in the Universe, or at least was at some point if not currently, because the Universe is so big. However, I think such life is probably too far away from us for us to actually have contact with.

Some, perhaps even most, are probably frauds. But there's been too much evidence for too long to believe they all are. And then there's the logic of the situation. With such a huge galaxy (let alone other galaxies), it is unlikely that we are the only intelligent (relatively speaking) life. It is therefore not very likely that we have developed space travel while others have not. Indeed, it seems very easy to say it is likely others have developed it better than us, or had more time at it, at any rate.
It is also not unreasonable that such people (OK, what would you call them?) would want to keep their explorations secret until they knew more about what we are like and how we might react to their presence. So they monitor our radio and TV, most likely.
Oh, dear, what an impression of us they must be getting! No wonder they don't want us to know they are near!

I don't really believe in them. Why are so many reported in America compared to the rest of the world? Can you think of any UFO sightings in the U.K? Not so many. In the States all the time. Thus begging the question: what's special about the USA?
Yup, a lot of special people.

Like Mulder, I want to believe!
However most if not all of them are just objects from Earth that because of wind etc have been blown up into the sky. The reason that people think they are spaceships or whatever is because it is very difficult to judge actual size and distance of something which is floating up in the air, especially if the sky is quite clear. You cannot tell whether it is something huge and far away, or something small and close because there is nothing behind it in your field of vision to compare it with.
At night, if there are clouds high up in the atmosphere it isn't immediately obvious that they are themselves moving, sometimes in different directions from each other in different layers of the atmosphere. Therefore it can look as though lights from aeroplanes or satellites are moving in crazy paths, or flashing on and off, when you look at them against this backdrop, when really they're behaving perfectly normally.
I hope someone else puts in an answer that convinces me there really are aliens (friendly I hope) looking at us!

I do believe in other life forms which are intelligent but they are probably too far away for our generation to come into contact with !.
As for UFOs, i think - Like Laura W, that they are just, and have been experimental aircraft and natural occurrences like comets & meteors..But i would not like to bet everything i have on that !!.

the jury is still out as far as I'm concerned, but Paul E? What you say about the majority of the "sightings" being in the US is not eactly accurate. There have been "sightings" all over the world. Mexico and south America are apparently particularly active. and military bases around the world have had issues.

There was a sighting in South Africa in 1983.
A large craft accompanied by 2 smaller ones was seen just south of Johannesburg, then over the Drakensberg mountains by different people, then over Ladysmith in Natal by a friend of mine, and finally near Durban docks.
The timeline of their sightings was consistent and many people reported them.
The distance between Johannesburg and Durban is 400 miles.

Sick of them .... landing in the back garden at all times of the day and night - expecting a cup of tea and a bacon sarnie. They then disappear to frighten two long lost lovers stranded on a lonely highway in a car that's run out of petrol then have the nerve to come back and expect their "saucer" to be jet washed while they use the bog before their trip home - nightmare really

I believe that aliens have visited Earth, but i also think a lot of sightings are false alarms.
If you're interested in stuff like this check out serpo.org, it's supposedly put together by ex NASA staff and army majors etc. Great conspiracy theory stuff!

I think that if aliens wanted contact with earth it would emulate the Independence movie (with good intensions or bad). You dont come, with obvious advanced intelligence, millions of light years, to probe people, abduct people or play hide and seek with humans.
The government has already said its their own testing...and for lying they should be discredited and ousted anyway.
