oh, and talking about Ghandi, Civil Disobedience is still disobediance. Ghandi was still a criminal, and if you want to bring Ghandi in to it, he kept the oppressive caste system in India, basically enslaving millions since his death.

And the british could have stayed in India, but they didnt want to bother anymore. If they were smart, they would have assassinated that p*ssy ghandi who didnt even want to fight for what he believed in. The british closed their own casket when they opened fire on the unruly crowds. and dont be fooled, the indians did riot and soldiers were in fear, like the Boston Massacre. Ghandi didnt fight for what he believed in. But he was a criminal, he deserved to be arrested. He committed crimes, breaking the law, no mattre what the reason is still breaking the law, which meas you go to jail.

the solving terrorism, what about afghanistan you fool. What about Isreal and hezbollah you fool. Has there been a terrorist attack since 9/11? nope, so we can say that war has stopped terrorism.

and when i say liberated millions, how about Germany, France, Holland, afghanistan, China, japan, North africa, all the southern slaves, and yes, Iraq, they vote and they arent kidnapped and tortured.

ive read about a "great" peace advocate Neville Chamberlain. If you dont know who he is, he was the prime minister of england when Hitler rose to power. He appeased hitler time after time, making the impending war even worse. If france and england had attacked germany in 1937, the war would have been minimalized, and would have saved lives. Peace isnt the best solution.

2006-10-11 03:29:58 · update #6

im pretty sure WAR didnt cause the holocaust, appeasement did. War didnt cause revolutions, taxes and oppression did. War didnt cause terrorism, Islam did. War didnt cause genocide, racial "superiority" did, peace just perpetuates the problem. War didnt cause fascism, apeasement did.
Appeasement = Peace

Once again, Chamberlain tried "peacefully" to stop Hitler, which failed. If they would have attacked Hitler early, they would have saved many lives, dollars and the infrastructure of Europe. when you try to avoid war, you ultimately get it, only its much worse, and much more violent.
You're argument about World War 2 being all Hitlers fault is like saying that MLK jr. caused his own death by fighting for civil rights.

You seem to be confusing "peace" with "inaction". Unfortunately this is a misconception many people seem to have. Peace is a state where there is calmness, but not immobility. You can work for change without holding an M-16 on someone, or plowing an Abrams tank through someones town. Just as some people have already stated, it's already been done by Ghandi. I disagree with standing by apathetically, but I also disagree with blowing a country up to lessen total possible casualties. Hind sight is 20/20. So lets learn from the mistakes of those of whom did nothing and from those of whom did too much.
"So much attention is paid to the aggressive sins, such as violence and cruelty and greed with all their tragic effects, that too little attention is paid to the passive sins, such as apathy and laziness, which in the long run can have a more devastating effect." ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
Lets pay attention to both, and stop confusing peace with inaction or "apathy"
We need to work towards a non-violent solution, but actually WORK.

do you actually want an answer or do you just want to vent?

Peace, for exemple, caused fast development of the world in 19. century, then the war gaved chanse to test these accomplishments and made development even faster in some fields, while slowing it down in other fields.
War also has been the reason why some Oppressive Governments gained power, why terrorism, communism, fascism ever got so widespread and many Genocides and Revolutions happened during a war, it has been the reason why millions worldwide have been oppresed and/or killed.

The point of peace isn't exactly to solve. War "solves" the death of people... soldier and not. Peace advocatess don't want death. They don't like dieing soldiers or civilians. War itself solves somethings but not a lot.

Solved Genocide? Sure. Holocaust, yes that's true! Revolutions? Do you mean caused them or stopped them? Oppressive governments? Like Saddam.... Terrorism? Isn't solved yet you fool! Communism? Imploded on itself. Liberated millions? Who's liberated? Iraqis? Certainly not.

I'm a peace-advocate. I DO know sometimes war is necessary (duh). I just think that war shouldn't be the first diplomatic tool. War solving things, isn't the mindset we should have because we may become true war-mongers. Of course, both you and I are saying this from sheltered settings. We're both in a country with a strong military I'd like to see you say "war is the solution" in a country where a military of a couple thousand could change your life from simple farmer to oppressed citizen. Same to me, I know.

You're a fool to think war is a solution to much of anything.

Wow.

Your question blew my mind. And people are concurring.

What has peace ever solved? Are we so far gone in our military solve everything mindset that your question is valid?

Peaceful discussion and resolution of conflict has been a part of human nature since the beginning of time. Violence and warring, unfortunately, have as well. Peaceful resolutions have saved countless people from death, oppression, mutilation etc. Peaceful solutions are happening all the time through the United Nations and through negotiations between countries.

Peaceful resolution is always the best way to solve problems as it minimizes lingering bad feeling between parties and minimizes the prospect of future violent conflict.

You might want to read about Gandhi, Martin Luther King or other great leaders who achieved much through peaceful means in the face of violent oppression.

We also know that war has created all of those problems too. Its kind of silly to blame Chamberlain more than Hitler, which seems to be the conclusion you're drawing in your comments.

Issues of aparthied in South Africa were solved by peaceful movements. The Truth and Reconciliation project is an obvious flaw in your argument.

Nice effort though.

So what are you saying, that you want perpetual war? Peace doesn't solve anything, it 's the goal, or at least it should be. However if you want an example look at the example of Gandhi in India. He never lead an army yet he and his followers eventually pressured the British to leave India.

Peace has caused the restlessness that's inspired our worst infighting yet. This country was divided down the middle before War began. Peace causes self-examination, self-examination causes self-hatred, self-hatred causes self-suffering.
