2000 E320 Mercedes 4 matic station wagon. My mechanic says 10,000 but he changes his cars at 3 and 5,000. My husband says let it go and the shop will let you know when it needs it? He just blew an engine is his car last year because the oil was gone, so I don't take his advise where cars are concerned. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Any time you want. Some cars like the corvette come with synthetic oil from the factory. I've been told once you put synthetic oil in your car or truck you can't go back to using regular oil. Most factory's recommend that you change every 5000 miles using synthetic oil. Some say every 7000 miles. Anywhere in between should be okay.

I've owned Mercedes for the last few decades and the one thing I am absolutely strict about is that the engine oil (no matter whether mineral, synthetic or any other) and engine oil filter are changed every 6000 miles. I am aware that modern oils can go on for a lot longer, but what would you rather do, pay for an oil change twice a year or buy a new engine?! No argument, is there? So check the engine oil level regularly, and change the engine oil/filter as recommended above. And you can then be sure that, unlike your husband's, your car's engine will remain as Mr Mercedes intended - in one piece!

Play it safe. First, go by mileage, and not time unless you rarely drive the car. Second, do it every 3,000 miles. I realize that many people say you can do more, and I know that there are oils out there that even claim as much as 15,000 miles. However, they are not your car's manufacturer.

There have been instances where people are leaving their car's oil in until 7500 miles, and when something happens, they go to the manufacturer and say that the engine is bum. However, in you owner's manual, it may say, 3,000 or 5,000 miles. In this case, the manufacturer can turn around and say, "but you didn't do what we recommended."

ALWAYS DO WHAT THE MANUAL SAYS or it will void any warranty you have left. They make hundreds of thousands of the same vehicle that you bought one of so I think they may have a better understanding than you, me or Joe Blow as to what will work best in their engines.

Also, in general, an oil change is a cake job to do yourself...it takes 10 minutes, 2 tools (usually only one though) and the oil and filter only cost $15 in total. $15 and 10-minutes of my time is definitely worth preserving the $10k on up that I just spent on a car, you know? Most cases of oil come with rebates too. Even if you take it someplace, it's usually only $20-30 and everyone, even the dealers have specials on oil changes and tune-ups. hit their websites and look for coupons.

pass via way of your proprietor's handbook. many human beings substitute it each 3000 miles or 3 months for the explanation that's what mechanics interior the previous have mentioned. vehicle technologies is diverse on the instant so it fairly is far less commonly used yet going via way of your handbook is stunning yet do it religiously because of the fact of certainty going 25k miles without an oil substitute can in all probability KILL your engine! Your utilising habit will play into it besides. frequently, vehicle manuals have a typical utilising oil substitute advice and a severe circumstances schedule (somewhat some short journeys the region the engine would not attain working temp long sufficient to burn off any water buildup, etc). My Acura says 5000 miles familiar utilising 10000 for severe. Oil differences only fee like $20. it incredibly is not any longer perfect worth risking long term engine injury

depends on the use of the car, mainly freeway and you can run to 15000, around town and medium use 10000 is fair.

Beware, some oils are packaged as synthetic and are not. Mobil 1 is probably the best. If you use a cheaper mineral oil then change at 4000-5000.

Whenever I take my car in for a lube change the mechanics thought it was very funny when I brought my own Mobil 1 for them to use. they didnt laugh when the car went in for some work with 110,000 miles on it and they took the head off to find that the engine was like new

The Mercedes owner's manual and the service dept. at the dealer will tell you what the prescribed oil change interval is. You should adhere to the car maker's schedule regardless of whether you run synthetic or 'regular' oil. The synthetic reduces friction inside the engine but it does not have greater longevity than non-synthetic types or blended oil. That is to say that synthetic is not intended to lengthen the interval between oil changes.

10,000 miles is good. With fuel injection and hot ignitions the new better oil really lasts long. always change filter and do remember to check level every 1000 miles. Running out will kill the newer aluminum motors fast...yah 5000 with turbo but without oil lasts longer!

I usually change my synthetic every 5000 miles. Never at 10000! That's just crazy talk. I drive a turbocharged vehicle too, so 5000 will be just fine for your Mercedes. Take care of your car, and it will take care of you!

I run it 10,000 miles, and change the filter every 2,500.
