I went to Planned Parenthood tuesday afternoon and I had the worst visit ever. I just want to get a pregancy test but was recommended to take a blood test because my hormone level might be to low to show in my urine. I sat at the front desk area for at least one hour and it was just three of us(who haven't been seen/signed in yet). There was a lady in the office talking on the phone ignoring that we were standing out in the lobby area. We rang the bell three times and she still continued her conversation. She finally came out after one of the women keep knocking. She came out and helped one women with bc pick up and basically thru it at her. Then it was my turn...

I want to know if I could get a preggo test but instead I was couselled by a director of planned parenthood in Maryland who has no Ph.D or even a certified nurse. I asked her about a blood test if they have them? She tells me that know one in Maryland does them, and a urine test is 100% acurrate.

After that I asked is there another clinic I could go to for a blood test? I specificly want a blood test because I have had a urine test before in my years and it came oujt negative and I was for three months before it came out right. Her answer is go to an ER/OB-GYN and pay the extra money because I need special treatment. Then she adds well even if I was preg. they would be able to do nothing but give me an option of termination or another OB-GYN and I will have to pay the money.

She basically went on-on about things I never questioned or even wanted. I want my baby if I am and the only reason why I went there is because I hear they are good on the price for people with no insurance(because based on income) And very courtious people there to help.
Im 24 year old and felt like I was treated like a teenager, in high school with no job. There was no respect... What would you all do?

I would try a different Planned Parenthood office. I know in our area there are 3. There's one office run very much like the one you described, but not all of them are bad. If you get the same results, you may just have to go to a regular ob/gyn and maybe they'll work with your situation. I ,too, needed a blood test, because urine tests were negative for me, I went to my family doctor for that. It didn't cost that much for the blood test.
Good Luck.

chevylvr10 obviously has no idea what they're talking about. It's not just for abortion, in fact our branch doesn't perform them, only counsels women about their rights and risks. You have to go to an abortion clinic to get an abortion. It's there for men and women's sexual health. It's provides affordable birth control and physical exams.

That's horrible and I'm sorry about that one. I've gone to Planned Parenthood only twice (both times when I was younger, as in 17 and 19) and both times were only to get the morning after pill (not that I want to go into detail, but one was from an unwanted sexual experiance and the other from sabotage.. i found out my boyfriend at the time had poked holes in the condom). But going on, the staff wasn't rude at all. But then again it might have been a bad office because my best friend had a similar experience to yours at the other PP in our area (there are 2). They were completely rude to her, and after waiting for 1 1/2 hours to get nothing more than her bc pills, we got up and left. Everntually she had to go back because she needed them, and it was a different person working and they were completely oppisite. Very nice and took her in right away.

I agree in writing a letter to the Director of that specific office if not then write a letter to the main one in your area.

If that doesn't work, I'm pretty sure if you go online to their website, that there is a Main Office address you can write to. I wish you the best next time.

Planned Parenthood is mostly run by caring health officials. There is a doctor that comes there as needed. It is basically used for pregnancy tests, birth control, and paps and pelvic exams, by young people or low income individuals. It is not uncommon to have to wait. The person that was on the phone MAY of been counseling another patient over the phone. I think PP is a WONDERFUL organization. It is all about preserving our rights as women. You have to remember that when you are going someplace for a free or reduced cost, that you may have to wait. Maybe they were understaffed that day. But don't loose hope with them.

How horrible for you! It's not like that everywhere, I used PP for about 6 years ( I didn't have insurance and they were the cheapest place to go) and never had anything like that happen. I live in Texas and there are three different PP clinics in my area, and I have no problem recommending them to others. You just ended up at a pretty bad one! Good luck in finding a good doctor elsewhere, no one should be treated that way.

Yes the way you were treated is absolutely wrong and disrespectful! But of course, what can you expect for free/at a discount? Usually you can excpect service to be less than professional/ But that doesn't mean you shouldn't write a letter of complaint, I would. Try to find somewhere else to go. Good luck to you.

Typical pencil pushing BS! I hate being treated like that. Sometimes I wonder at people, it's like they grew up without a Mom to teach them how to act.
Anyway, just give it a couple days and get a urine test at the drugstore. They are pretty accurate, but not as accurate as a blood test.
Good luck.

I volunteer at planned parenthood, and the treatment you recieved was appalling. There is very little you can do, but write a letter to the director of the clinic and describe what happened.

Next time go to Birthright, or something. They are really no better as they push religion down your throat but they will at least give you the test you need. I use them for testing instead of planned parenthood. My reasoning, they are free.

chevylvr1 is an idiot, don;t listen to him, hes spouting propaganda, which is not what you asked for is it?

Planned Parenthood is a wasted and useless organization. There only really true reason for being is to make sure that murder renamed as a woman's choice, for politically correct reasons, remains legal.

The name, Planned Parenthood, is synonymous with abortion rights. They really do not care about your being or not being pregnant unless you are wanting to end your pregnancy, then you will have their full and undivided attention.

There is just something sick, twisted, and vile about that isn't it?

You will be better served to go to a store and buy your own pregnancy test, or go to a local Health Department. Planned Parenthood is definitely not the place to go if you are wanting to start a family.

I went to one of the planned parenthood websites and they claim their mission is to offer information, management of fertility, etc.
But it looks to me, that they specialize on prevention of pregnancy and that type of service.

I recommend you give a call to your Gynecologist, he will be able to write you a script for pregnancy test done on blood. Good luck.
