English and Scottish bank notes are the same currency (pounds sterling). You can use either in either country.

You can use English money in Scotland but you'll need to change Scottish money back into English money. A lot of places in England won't accept Scottish money - the ones that will usually have some sort of presence in Scotland and so can recirculate the money.
