Are these drugs getting on to the black market? Are they being smuggled on of mental institutions and used to drug people without their knowledge, for robbery, smutty pictures, fornication, etc?

But do the drugs exist in the first place and is the security good enough?

What use are these drugs anyhow?

The drugs certainly exist and not just in mental institutions! The drugs they give you in hospital for minor surgery now instead of a general anasthetic put you to sleep almost instantly and leave you with no memory at all! You dont even remember being asleep just awake in one room, then awake in another room - nothing in between!

You've asked quite a bit. Let me keep this simple. Blackouts can be induced chemically using any number of commonly available medicines. While you would find more in a medical hospital, some are found in mental health facilities. Control of these medications is relatively tight, requiring doctor's orders and signatures to administer. The proper uses for these medications include general anesthesia for surgery, to decrease anxiety, and many others. Regarding the "bad" things you wrote about: Most individuals with access to these drugs have a license they worked hard to get, and will lose it if they break the law. There are "bad" people in all professions, but they are outnumbered by the "good". They only last so long before getting caught. Keep in mind that mental health institutions are not dark, secretive places. The operate and look much more like a regular hospital than most people think.

Are you looking for a date rape drug? Or do you just distrust mental health professionals?

You can find Rohypnol ("rufies") at frat parties. That's what they usually use for date rapes.

Are you thinking of seeing a counselor such as a psychaitrist or psychologist? You don't know that to think and don't want to be taken advantage of?

A psychologist does not even have an MD, so they never use drugs to help people deal with their issues. A psychaitrist does have an MD so they usually figure that mental issues are of a physiological nature, and dole out the meds to help people deal with their lives. General MD's and surgeons use drugs to do surgical proceedures. They don't use such drugs in mental institutions, though. Those drugs are highly regulated and monitored.

If it's fear of mental health counseling you have, think about this. Counselors and physicians are bound by ethics and by law to do no harm. They do not use drugs to take advantage of people. Counselors help people discover what holds them back in life, and help them discover ways to cope. Physicians help people with physical problems, and have strict regulations about what drugs will help and how. There are anestheisiologists that specialize in using such drugs, and accompany surgeons during proceedures so they can monitor the patient's vitals.

The only time to worry about drugs like this is when they are in the wrong hands, and not regulated by any rules or standards, like in a frat house for the purpose of date rape for guys who couldn't get laid otherwise.

You have about six separate questions here so to get 2 points for each one delete this question then ask separate questions. Better than the 2 points only you will get for this one.

Rohypnol, which is of the class of benzodiazepines, and is more known as the "date rape" drug, or roofies, can induce anterograde amnesia at certain doses.
