about 2 days ago i bought 4 male guppies, two were taquila sunrise ans two were your ordinary fancy male guppies. well we put them in our fish tank after letting them float for 30 mintues, and just befor we started floating them we added salt. our tank has 6 zebra danioes and one corry catfish, we dont know but we think the zebra danioes might be doing it b/c we have whatched them and they chase them around. there is no other apperent reason for them dying.....what should we do?

Check your water parameters.

You should watch the amount of salt that you are putting in the tank. So fish tolerate salt better than other, mollies come from brackish water (Fresh water mixes with ocean water). I never used salt in my water. Do you have plants (plastic or live) for your fish to hide in? Danios are schooling fish and stay near the top of the tank. Guppies usually stay in the middle and bottom of the tank so there should not be a problem unless the guppies are less than 3/4 the size of your zebras. When releasing new fish in a tank I let the bag float on top for at least 20 min. I will open the bag at least once to let new air in. Once the tank & bags water tempture matches. I add a small amount of the tanks water into the bag every 5 min until the bag is almost full. I then slowly pour the fish into the tank this helps to reduce the shock of different water chemistry. Again remember that when you add salt to the water it will not evoperate with the water but remain in the remaining water which increases its level.

Had the same problem, I have 5 zebra dianos and a few other fish, but could not keep male or female guppies alive for more than a few weeks. No apparant reason for them dying. Maybe try a floating breeder tank..keep a guppy in there to see if maybe its the water...(not temp but salinity and other levels)

Guppies are FRESHWATER fish NOT SALTWATER YOU JUST KILLED THEM BY ADDING SALT. Some fish are salt water and some are freshwater. Do you check you pH everyday?? and treat it, do you check the ammonia... the ammonia could be high, treat the ammonia. Also remember 1 inch per gallon... you may have too many fish in there also and try rinsing out your filter. Letting guppies float for 30 Min's is TOO LONG 15 min is your max. CORY DORA IS ALSO FRESHWATER. The other fish I don't know about but you DEFINITELY need to check out on that at your local pet store or they will die.

bring a water test from your tank to your dealer and ask them if they can measure it. i would say to put a divider beetween them so they could see each other but not chase them.

can they be in the same water temperature as your other fish? Have your water tested
