As per this website http://www.greatapeproject.org/index.php the great apes project is about recognizing the fact that apes share much of the emotional attributes that humans do, and deserve to be treated with respect by human beings, not put in prisons or zoos, and be treated at par with human beings on basic rights of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". As per this website, http://www.afajournal.org/2006/august/0806noi.html Spain is going to be the first country in the world which would recognize this STATUS of the closest kin of human beings.

given that bush has the brains of an ape and Clinton the habits of a bonobo... it may be right that many humans rate under apes on the scale of evolution.

Now, given the fact that zoos are one of the few places apes have a reasonable chance at survival, because in the wild, they will be subject to habitat encroachment and poaching, and will probably disappear within one generation... and any way, we cannot effectively communicate with them, and won't make resource consuming allowances for them... I'd say those sites are made by complete loons who should be dropped in the jungle naked and see if they want to be humans or apes.
