A Protestant usually means any Christian who is not a Roman Catholic or an Orthodox Christian.

Protestants usually believe that the priest is not an INTERCESSOR between God and the ordinary man. As a rule, Protestants believe that ordinary people can pray directly to God, rather than asking priests or saints to intercede on their behalf.

Protestants used to be members of the Catholic church. When they had a disagreement with the church, they protested and formed their own church. That is why we have so many Christian churches. They all have their slight differences... one would break off from another.
