I believe most of them are selfish pigs.
Most.
Its worth remembering that we don't know what their marriage is really like. People say the same things, but the words can mean different things. Some people are complaining 'my partner and I don't have sex' meaning ' we only have sex twice a week and no anal' and other people say the same thing meaning 'we last had sex in 2001, I've tried initiating about 100 times per year since unsuccessfully'.
Are there marriages out there with some positive features, perhaps with kids, where the participants choose to stay together yet have affairs over divorce? Maybe.

I dont understand your question and what is your definition of adultery. Self righteous people often are just protecting themselves from their own frailty.

You see those that cheat are selfish cowards that can't live up to a commitment they made. They want their cake and to eat it too. I measure my manhood by the ability I have to listen, and compromise when needed to make our marriage work. I know and so do my wife that in order for our marriage to keep going as well as it has we need to listen to eachother and to make some compromises which are sometimes very hard.
Most people are too selfish to bother with any of this.
Me me me me me me me is what is all about.

My wife cheated on me and not a day goes by that she doesn't regret it...mainly because I keep her in a cage in the basement and feed her nothing but rice, but she still feels bad none the less.

they are? i have heard responses that suggest they try to justify their actions by directing blame on their spouses "no sex", "abusive partner", "spouse doesn;t understand me", etc., or trying to convince people that "everyone does it", but if you look past the emotionalism of the response, you will see it is all smoke and mirrors to avoid a long confrontation. .... wrong is wrong.
