what's the meaning of "Somebody Told Me"?

Is he saying that he dated a guy that turned into a girl, or that his girlfriend is now dating a girl? Or neither of these???

He is saying that he likes this girl a lot, and she dated a guy who reminded him of a girl he used to date. In other words, he is saying he believes they like the same qualities in a mate. It makes him think he would have a good chance of them hitting it off.
