In general, USB flash disks provide greater storage, more reliability and faster access than other media, especially floppy disks and rewritable CDs. Having used floppy disks, Zip disks and rewritable CDs/DVDs in the past I can vouch for their reliability, although they can still break down.

They are ideal for transferring data between computers, as they can be read by different operating systems. Some MP3 players can also be used as flash drives.

All kinds of great answers to this already, but my main reason for using a flash disk is the convenience and ease of use. I can take files from one computer to another on the flash. I can then delete it off there, which I can't always do on a CD.

omg alot easier....no one really uses floppy disks anymore and it's a pain to save data on cd and then use on another computer, you'd have to format the cd before using it and it takes a while to do that and then it may not even work on another computer (bad experience there with bringing a word document from my home to school).....flash disk you just drop the data you want in to the drive, unplug it and take it with you.

I use it because it fits in my pocket, holds a lot of data, and I am a nerd. Ever try sticking a CD in you pocket? Especially with a pocket protector, 3 pens and 2 pencils? It is not easy or attractive.

USB flash drives are more compact, store iformation faster, hold enormous amounts of information, are universal PnP, and they are said to be able to hold information longer than CD-R's.

probably because of the portability. cd can get scratched, floppys are outdated and some computers don't even have a drive for them anymore.
