Most cars that have an extended trunk lip as in the case of BMW will not offer a rear wiper. The car makers feel that it's not necessary because you wont get road crap on your back window since the trunk acts effectively as a mud flap. Should you buy a BMW with the short trunk lip, you should ask the dealer if a rear wiper is offered as an option. If not, you probably wont need it, and if you still feel you have to have it? Get it after market.

Saloon cars don't, at least most don't. In the UK there was one exception, the ford orion, which if i remember correctly had a rear wiper. Most BMWs are saloons so don't have them. I have to say it would be handy to get rid of the dew that has formed on the back window over night though.

For the same reason they don't have indicators. You only need back wipers if you intend to check your mirrors. Seeing as BMW drivers are exempt from needing to do this, they have no need to fit rear wipers.
