You may want to check and see if you need to update the driver for the software for that particular item. If it is a fire wire connection similar to a USB port you may have to check the port to see if there is a new conflict in the memory line. Hope this helps.

Check the wires on both end. If ok, then pull out the camera end and reconnect. The WinXP should announce "new device found".
If you had earlier loaded the driver, it should load automatically and you will get a message "you device is now ready" or something in that order.
Sometimes the USB port is faulty, so try another one.No need to load the driver again if the driver is already loaded.

Well did you install the drivers first, you have to do that before connecting any USB device. Also try looking in my computer and see if it shows a new mass storage device, which will be your cameras memory card. If you explore it you might be able to copy your pictures directly from there.
