Be nice? You didn't really give enough information to be helpful.

I'm assuming you speaking of a customer service type job over the telephone, so ...

Smile. The sound of your smile will come through in your voice, and it will make you seem more friendly and helpful on the phone.

Know your product/service. You can't be an effective customer service agent if you are fumbling for information. Know your product, or know how to access the information very quickly.

Speak clearly and properly. Don't mumble or use slang terms.

Don't respond to the customer's anger. Getting angry only makes the situation worse. The customer is frustrated and upset, and they've called you for help.

Try to be polite, no matter what the situation is. A little more iniformation would have been more helpful to anyone answering this question.
