Be careful what you choose Stacey as the baby has got to live with the name for the rest of it's life!!!

Don't go too way out especially if you have a boy.....girls names can be a bit more adventurous.....

Personally I like Maddie for a girl.
Very old names are lovely for girls like Emily, Maggie, Lucy, Molly, Milly

Boys - I like traditional names like James, Stephen, Michael
If I had a boy I would call him Thomas....

I'm sure you'll make a good choice!!

Try going to babynames.com. Look under popular names for 2005. And look under 100+ names. Those are the names that aren't soo popular, but yet somewhat used. Or if you are looking for the popular names for 2005, so you know what to stay away from. Check out the Social Security Website and they'll list the most popular names last year.

We chose Arthur for our baby boy - as in King Arthur - we wanted something "British and Celtic" (I'm Welsh, BF is English) which reflected our baby's roots and heritage.

And also something that wasn't "made up" but that no one else was using!!!

Think of names that you don't read very often being given to babies. I actually like names like Richard, Edward, David, etc for boys and Rose, Katherine or Elizabeth for girls. These are nice, historical, established names which don't date but aren't considered "trendy" enough amongst all the little Kai's, Luca's, Reese's, Tyrones, Freya's, Dylan's etc of today! So your child won't be one of many in his/her class at school.

Also pick something which reflects your heritage and background. i don't get why people would, for example, pick a Welsh or Scottish name when they have no Welsh or Scottish in them!! It doesn't MEAN anything then! Be proud of who YOU are!

And ask relatives for suggestions.

Seven :-)

or Soda.

(OK, a little sarcasm, but let's see who knows where those came from)

Google is probably the best way to go. But you'll probably get millions of names. Are you looking for a certain lineage/ancestry? That would help to narrow it down a bit. For example, as someone mentioned, you could search for Celtic Boys Names and see what that gets you.

Welsh names and ethnic names have strong roots and meanings. Don't choose something off the wall, remember your child will have to grow up with that name and endure it through school. Celebrity baby names annoy me. Fifi Trixibell, Apple etc, those children have problems before they can even start living life.

Congratulations! I'm pregnant to, and I find out what I'm having in three weeks. My husband and I have decided to name our child Harley (Harleigh for a girl) Dae because our last name is Vinson and it's the most unique we could come up with. You really have to say it to understand it I guess...lol

You asked for UNCOMMON names and all you got were a bunch of COMMON names

People don't listen

I'm naming my son Nevion....no one in the world has that name..lol...I made it up and even if they do SPELL it that way I'm sure they PRONOUNCE it differently...Feel free to name your son this if you like...but if he becomes famous I'll be needing the credit for the name and 50% royalites everytime its used and/or spoken

Girls:

Ruby
Heidi
Evelyn (nickname: evie)
Evie (pronounced eve-ee)
Maanika (pronounced Monica) meaning ruby (my own name)
Lucy or Lucille, meaning bringer of light
Lacey or Lacy
Estrella (pronounced estraya)
Ava
Lola
Scarlet
Brooke
Victoria
Desiree
Charlotte
Renee
Anya
Anika (pronounced Aneeka or An-i-ca)
Berlin

Boys:

Martin
Jay
Gavin
Kevin
Artin

mix and match for a cool first and middle name.

and its best not to name your children something from the top 50 list because then people at school will end up calling them Emma B. or Jacob F. (not that they are bad names. they are quite nice in fact)

congrats! let me know what you name him/her!
