Pfft.
Ignor these stupid people who are against rats.
I own one, and I adore her SO much.
She is kinda trained now, to do it in the corner of the cage.
If your rat lives by herself, she is probably just lazy or undecisive.
My rat taught herself how to do her things in certain spots.
Just like when I take her out of the cage, she never ever relieves herself.

Goodluck mate.
If you have any other questions about rats, I know alot.
Hope this helped.

What kind of prat insults another persons choice of pet? If you don't have anything constructive to say then don't answer - there are plenty of other questions on here for you to be helpful with. Rats are actually incredibly intelligent and loving pets, far more so than your average hamster or gerbil.

To the op, as people have said, it's just what rats do so just make sure you clean the bed every couple of days so it doesn't smell too bad.

You could try potty training her. Just scoop the bedding into a corner you'd like her to use as a toilet. Rats aren't perfect, but they can have a 70% success rating. You'll have to be persistent, though. I don't have the patience for it, so I let them do whatever. It requires you to constantly check their bedding and moving the shavings/bedding to where they should potty. They usually get the hint in a few days.

Rats Rule! I've had over 60 since 1998. I wouldn't go a day without one :-D !

i used to have rats!! there very clever and hygenic. i raised my from newborn, i put him on the floor, shut him and he would come, he was like a dog. anyways. your rat will wee where she wants to, try putting a part of the bedding with wee on it in a corner to try and encourage her to wee there. dont know what else to sugest. she might like her wee lol good luck.

ignore them, having a pet rat is great! they're very intelligent creatures i've owned three in my life time and they made great companions!! unfortunately thats what rats do, you're just gonna have to make sure you change the bedding regularly so it doesn't start to smell, and make sure ya wash your hands after you hold him!

Its completely normal for your rat to do this. Just make sure you keep cleaning her enclosure every couple of days everything will be cool.

The answer is...... always leave some of the old soiled stuff in one of the corners and this will encourage her to use that corner as the toilet instead of using the bed.
