I can't remember what it's called.
This guy is in the Roman Army, but then his family gets killed and for some nonsensicle reason he becomes a gladiator. He has to fight several other gladiators in the place where gladiators fight.
The gladiator ends up having to fight Ceaser in the same place he fought all the other gladiators.
And then he dies.

It won 5 oscars and was nominated for another 7 - it was huuuge - hence why you're likely to get lots of "You're kiddin right?" type answers. But don't worry, you get to say "DUH!" when people call it "The Gladiator" and not "Gladiator" (its proper title).

I'm not sure of the answer but don't think it was "Gladiator", Everything fits (family dying, becomes the gladiator and dying himself at the end) up to the fight with Caesar.
I don't remember Russell Crowe fighting Caesar in the movie at all.
Joaquin Phoenix played Commodus .
Do you remember him fighting with a lion?
If so, it was "Gladiator".
