Good point! They should change that expression! I'm sure it is supposed to mean that you shouldn't give up easy - success is worth waiting for. Like if you're an attorney or something and it takes several years before you are eligible to make partner. Or waiting for the right person to come along before jumping into marriage. But that expression is too simplistic and makes it sounds like you should wait for things to fall into your lap instead of doing your part to make them happen!
