Call themselves European Africans , African Soviets , if not, why can't the blacks be happy just calling themselves Americans ? Instead of perpetuating hatred because they have to have everything black this , and African that !!!

Wow. Interesting question. How do you know they don't call themselves African europeans?

But to answer your question, I think the reason is because we were never fully "American". We were bought here as slaves. Had our former culture stripped from us and have had to fight to get some of the same rights as our white citizens. We are still struggling for this so until white america accepts us on the "content of our character" (to quote MLK) then we will always consider ourselves "african" americans.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Don't be inferring that the UK is part of Europe.

It isn't. Are we clear about this?

Blacks here can call themselves anything they like, as can whites. Who cares?

I stick with calling blacks blacks, and whites whites, collectively. And white fellas white fellas and black fellas black fellas individually.

I would call myself a white fella. This is what I am. Though technically, I suppose, I'm a Caucasian Hybrid Gael-Aryan Britonian Male, or something.

Anyhow!

Why do the Colonials call themselves Americans when they are, in fact, Colonials. Or Rebels. Or just plain Yanks?

Don't know but this question to you makes as much sense as the one you asked do the English living in Africa call themselves English Africans?

What I know is that the blacks living in the UK call themselves by the country the come from like I knew a girl from Jamaica that lived in London and she always refered to herself as being Jamamican even though she was a citizen of the UK. We it has to be so different her I don't know.
