if your new to 4x4 do it this way dont switch the ignition off you dont have to.
stop the vehicle before you go into 4 wheel drive.
and then put the gear into 4l or 4h depending on the terrain your crossing when your through the terrain stop and come out of 4 wheel drive especially for road driving or you will damage the transmission you can do this also at a crawl but get used to the change while its stopped first.
join a 4x4 club in your area a you will learn lots of useful things your 4x4 does and hoe to get out of a situation and have lots of fun

You don't need to turn the engine OFF, but depending on your make some can change "on the fly" (moving along at less than 20mph) whilst others need to be stationary (some older types require you to hop out and turn the locking lugs on the front wheels, but I'm sure your's is too new for that.)
Think about attending a 4x4 training school, Land Rover and (I think) Jeep run them as well as many independent operators, it will make a world of difference to your driving.

Depends on the make and model, some like Jeep Cherokee's can be shifted into 4WD on the move at any legal speed. If you have ny doubts you should always read the manual. To get back into 2WD often you have to stop, select 2WD,drive slowly forward then reverse to disengage the front axle.
Some 4x4's,mostly older ones have manual front hubs so that you have to get out and engage or disengage them by turning a switch on the wheel hub.

Tell me what 4x4 you drive and ill tell you the answer. Remember never drive in 4x4 mode on the road unless its really snowy coz you could damage the final drive on the transmission.

If it is making alot of noise then it might just need looking at to make sure all is well. As for using 4wd on roads its fine as long as the diff is not locked into position. I have a MK2 pajero and can use 4wd on roads but the MK1 cant as the diff locks. Are you using it correctly for what the 4wd was designed for?

Depends on the 4x4. My truck, for example, allows me to go into 4 High while moving (under 20-ish miles per hour) if I wanted to.

No, just put it in park. Depending on the year and model. Read your owners manual, or read the instructions on the back of the drivers side sunvisor. It may be a shift on the fly meaning you can shift to 4hi at speeds under 25 mph

No just move the gear stick to 4 wheel drive but only do it when the car is stationary

No, you just need to move the gear stick to 4 x 4 while moving ussually only at a slow speed though.

It depends on the automobile. With manual transmissions, no. With some of the older ones with automatics, yes. It is not necessary on the newer ones.
