I just noticed something. How come we only use tranquilizers on mammals on land, but never birds, amphibians/reptiles, or even mammals that live underwater? Also, just how long does the tranquilizer completely wear off? Have wildlife professionals used tranquilizers in bats, or would that be too much?

They use tranquilizers on smaller animals and reptiles too.
It can be drugged "bait" for instance.
Generally it's done to calm them down during transporting and relocation.
No, they don't shoot a bird with a dart. They can use drugs in aerosol form. The dosage is determined on the size and weight of the animal. The time is dependent on the species and their recovery traits.
