$100 seems extremely high for one day late. What does your rental agreement say regarding late payment? Is there a grace period?
Have you spoken to the landlord?
If not, Pay the rent amount right away and ask if there will be any penalty, since you are only 24 hours late.
The followin sites may help you with information about what is reasonable & what your tenancy rights are. Note that it varies state by state, so these are just a guide

I don't know where you live but typically there is a grace period before you are charged a late fee. Harsh landlord! First, you should pay him without bringing it up. If he brings it up then you say "Holy Sh""!, I thought today was the 10th. My watch must not be set right. I am so sorry. Try to be sincere as possible. If you don't think that will work come up with a good story that is believeable.

call them to say that you did pay and give them a random check number. you can also say you dropped it off while they were closed or handed it to someone. even describe how the person looked if you know the staff but say that you didnt get their name. then they'll go searching through their checks and when they can't find yours then you tell them you'll cancel that one and send another one, which of course will be the rent you still owe them. it will seem like their fault instead of yours and should get you more time without paying the $100 fee. this of course works if you live in a large apartment complex with a staff office where they got hundreds of checks/money orders to sort through on the day rent is due making it easy to misplace a few, like your "fake" check...

If it is in your agreement that you signed that you would have to pay the $100 if you are late I don't see how you can get out of it. Maybe they have had a lot problems with people being late before. Still seems pretty steep to me for being one day late.

What an ignorant question. YOU MISSED PAYING THE RENT! What, you think if I get ticket I can ask on this board what I can do to get out of it?
YOU signed a contract, then YOU violated that contract and you don't want to pay the penalty? Well to bad for you.
