It does get that white residue off them and probably makes the ice taste better or the drink that it melts into. I used to wash mine once a month when i used the ice a lot. Less often in the winter. NOW I have an ice maker which is the coolest (no pun intended) thing I've have gotten in years. I love ice! To eat not to drive or walk on. Please! someone tell me to shut up!

I wash mine at home everytime they are empty. At work we have an auto ice maker, I think they clean that out like once a month or so. I think it is a good thing becasue auto ice makers have a tendency to give you funny tasting ice after awhile.

On my part time job, they never wash them....which is why they have a bag of ice in the freezer instead. On my full time job they have an ice machine. More sanitary this way.
