According to Yahoo's own corporate history page (see below), the two founders of Yahoo, David Filo and Jerry Yang, were Ph.D. candidates in electrical engineering.

Yahoo is a large company. The website started as a portal. It has expanded largely by buying out existing websites and branding them with the yahoo brand. Yahoo is made up of several teams and there is no one producer of it.
