there are beep codes that tell you about specific problems the pc is having, such as power supply, BIOS etc. There are many sites to tell you about these, Google "PC beep codes." If you didnt know that, then you prob wont be able to fix whatever it is, better just take it in.

Open Device Manager (right-click on "My Computer," select "Properties," select the "Hardware" tab, and press the "Device Manager" button).

Look for any device with a yellow exclamation point in front of it. If you see one, double-click on that device and read the error message.

Note: this is similar to looking up the beep codes others here have recommended, but the codes only tell you which device is not working, while Device Manager often goes further to tell you what is wrong with the device.

If you don't see anything in Device Manager, try the Event Manager instead (start / Control Panel / Adminstrative Tools / Event Manager). This will report any major OS software issues.

Between one of these, you may find a clue what the problem might be and perhaps how to fix it or what to fix.

Good luck.

[a] check to see if there's any virus eating up your resources. Do ctrl-alt-del and in the panel that opens, click on the "Processes tab. See if something you don't know is taking up a lot of CPU usage. This will be your virus. First of all select it and hit "End process"

Then delete it by doing the regedit. If you don't know how to do the regedit, then please get a professional to help you because it's a very dicey place for an amateur to play around.

[b] Check to see if you're low on memory. Click on "My Computer." >"Change a Setting" >"Network & Internet Connections"> "Internet options". Here click on "Delete cookies, then "Delete files" Put a tick in the empty box next to the line saying "Delete all offline content" by clicking in it, then click OK in that window. Click on "Delete History" and then, finally, on "Apply" and OK. This'll get rid of all the junk you'd accumalated.

If this doesn't work, go to a professional.
