I've run into lots of younger women/girls w/this problem. It may very well be something serious, but then again, girls w/totally "normal" periods can get EXCRUCIATING cramps! Remember, you're still developing (your reproductive organs) until you're in your early 20's!
Many people advocate using a WARM compress or hot water bottle, unless there is excess blood flow. Ibuprofen (the main ingredient in Midol or Advil) will also help with the inflammation. If you do a search, you'll see many sites advocating ibuprofen-based drugs...and...even one by thermacare (2nd link)! You don't really need to buy that...just get a hot water bottle or hot-cold pack from a drug store!
If things get too unbearable, ask your doctor about putting you on a low-dose birth control pill, for a while. This will make your periods lighter and more bearable, but you MUST find out about any family history of heart disease, stroke or blood clots, before going this route.
The first link below mentions prostaglandins (actually present in male sperm, too!), which can trigger severe cramping. I advocate plain aspirin for that, as is interferes w/prostaglandin production. But beware of upset stomache and do NOT use this if you are also bleeding heavily!
If you're into alternative meds, check out link three, which involves acupressure. I'm not sold on it curing EVERYTHING, but it sure helps my headaches! "Pressure points" can really work, so give them a try...what have you got to lose?
In conclusion, I would advise you to get a thorough work-up by your GYN. Endometriosis can cause all the symptoms you mention and it is progressive and serious, so make sure you don't have it, before trying these other methods and letting it go (if it's there!).
Don't worry...someday you'll be middle aged, no pain except maybe arthritis, w/your kid leaving home, longing for...well not the menstruation, but the youth, believe me!

It could be serious. I would get it checked out. If it is endometriosis, then you would need surgery to diagnose that. They can do the surgery laproscopy where it is not too bad. I have had it twice and for the first two days you are quite sore, but after that it is ok to move around. During the surgery they can try to remove it, or do an ablation of the nerves to help the pain. It could also be something else too. Either way I would go to the doctor and get checked and they should be able to help you deal with the pain until you can get the right answers. Feel Better!

I'm sorry for your cramps. I understand it can be very painful. I don't mean to scare u or anything, but do have it checked. It really could be serious, or not. There is such a thing called Endomitriosis. My friend had it. Went thru years of painful periods.
Go have it checked.

Mild exercise is really helpful before during and after. Lots and lots of water. Heat pads, and pamprin can help.
Good Luck
