Where do you get your information from?
According to statistics (yes, I know), crime rates in many areas are going down. As for arrest rates for poor innocent motorists going UP - well I am not sure about that one.
But remember, anyone driving in a car is in charge of what can become a lethal and fatal weapon - a mass of metal that can KILL! Very easily!!!!

i would say the courts are afraid of modern criminals, all the police can do is arrest these people and make sure they get enough evidence to get a conviction. it up to the courts to hand out proper sentences, instead of letting them out again. look at the killers of damilola taylor, 8 years of which if they will serve 4 years! one of the boys has a string of sexual offences behind him already! whats the bloody point make me sick!

Modern PC's are not afraid, they are overworked, with ridiculous paperwork, they are bound with PC guidelines and hamstrung by police chiefs who have fast-tracked their way straight to the top of the heap, and have no real knowledge of the actual situation on the streets.

More crime is reported, there are more arrests, but the increase in arrests does not keep up with the increase in crime.
So no: they are not afraid, they are snowed under!

no. they are more affraid of not getting enough criminals locked up. its a hard job , you try it.
the courts do not do the force any justice and you would not belive how hard it is to process a prisoner. the arrest is the easy part.
