Can anyone help me figure out what to do on nemos underwater world of fun pc game?

I got this game at a yardsale for my kids. None of us can get to any of the other games. We are stuck on the one where you have to ride the turtle and exit through portals. We have got all the pieces needed in this game but the turtle race keeps going so far we've made it to race 12. Is there a certain amount of races we have to beat before a different subgame is open or what? Can anyone help me?

We have the same game and all we can do is ride the turtle and play the music. I think it must be the demo game because my mom said she got it out of a cereal box. You can probably only go through all of the levels with the real one you buy from the store.
