When you've spent most of your life watching these people grow and succeed, they become a small part of our lives. I get sad every time I think about Christopher Reeve, I mean he was Superman and then one day he was paralyzed and now he's gone. These people spent their lives entertaining us, I think it's normal to miss them and mourn them when they pass away.

It depends - usually I just feel the mild sadness of a death of a stranger, but for a few individuals I genuinely feel mild grief as it it was the death of a distant relative or a friend I ave not seen in a long time. I guess the more the person is a part of your life (even though you may not be a part of theirs) the more sadness you will feel. I remember being sad when Ronnie Barker died as I liked many of his shows but when Diana died I felt sympathetic towards her sons but not really sad even though her death was more tragic.
I think death is always tough to cope with even as an abstract.

People normally do feel bad when they hear somebody has died, celebrity or not. I was gutted the other day when Paul Hunter the snooker player passed away. I was a big fan and it's an awful shame to see somebody die so young.

Because we follow them throughout their every move and get to know so much about them that we almost feel like we know them at a personal level. We as humans have a very soft and sensitive side. What about 9/11, there were a lot people that perished that I did not know and I know that I cried for everyone of them and for their loved ones. Just because we don't know them doesn't mean we can't sympathize with them or their family.

It depends on what celebrity is in question. So many people die everyday, when that doesn't stop me from enjoying my life, why should I care a rat- a*s whether someone I know from TV just kicked the bucket.

Put it another way, I'm that sort of person who doesn't give a damn if a celebrity walks by me a few feet.

When anyone passes away it's sad even if I didn't know them. I was real sad when Michael Landon passed away because I had grown up watching him. It kind of felt like some of my past had died too.

It's sad to see someone you grew up with that made you laugh or cry pass away. I know that you can't live forever but still it's sad because they entertained us and made us forget our life problems for a little while.

I was sad when Princess Diana died, but that's because she was such good eye candy when she was alive. However since her death her image is everywhere you look and she hasn't aged at all. So in retrospect I was wrong to be sad. In conclusion then: Celebrity's are better off dead!

i guess because we emulate the life of the celebrity. We see them as ourselves somehow. We "think" we know them and it hurts to see that the person you've admired and idolized have passed away
