Shoplifting has increased by 70% since 2000 despite shops using better security systems.
Some of my friends say that this rise is in line with the rise in immigration but what is your opinion as to why and who is responsible

People get away with it because they can - there's no deterrent to stop them. if security guards had more power to restrain and detain maybe people would think twice. Also the punishment is variable and it should be a fixed penalty or fixed amount of community service - make them give something back to the people from whom they have stolen - US. The consumer pays for it in the end as shops have to raise their prices to make up for the loss of stock.

I'm afraid that it is obviously compatible with wearing a yashmak. In saying this, I am not making accusations, just pointing out the obvious. There was a case in North Wales a few weeks ago where Roumanians given to wearing very copious long skirts conducted a successful shoplifting campaign using a specially devised bag hanging within the wide skirts. In a society where people wear close fitting garments, shoplifting is harder to carry out. I hope we don't get to the point where, as in countries in Central America and Cuba, we all have to deposit our bags when entering a store to ensure that we don't help ourselves to things which we have no intention of paying for.

yeh i think thats a big part to play but also theres alot more people about who just dont care and have no conscience the goverment has a lot to do with it because i feel they encourage all sorts of crime they are not willing to sentence any of these people with a real punishment i mean there now letting more people out of prison early because they dont have room which is encouraging more of these scumbags to do what they do, now they weigh up the risks and feel its worth the risk all they are doing is breeding crime in my eyes i know shop lifting isnt a major crime but if there not punishing major crime properly what do you think there doing to shoplifters id bet not alot and this is the reason shoplifting has gone up . the ironic thing is if they cant find spaces in prison for these evil bastards now how the hell are they gonna in 10 years i feel somethings gonna give sooner or later.

shoplifting will continue to increase, not because of immigration but due to a general decrease in respect for others and also because there are no deterrents.

I think that if we brought back the birch for shoplifting, vandalism and other crimes which do not merit a jail sentence you could find a remarkable decrease in these crimes!

It is a well known fact that we have organised criminal gangs operating in the UK from other places in the world, but in the same respect we have our own gangs from our own country operating their criminal waves both here in the UK and abroad.
