Difficult to say, although I'd say 3% at most.

As of July 2005, 54% of the population of the United States lives within the city limits of a city, but cities have much greater population density than the United States as a whole.

The entire United States has a population of 80 people per square mile. But cities are many times more dense than that. Examples:
New York City, New York 26,403 per square mile
Los Angeles, California 7,877 per square mile
Chicago, Illinois 12,750 per square mile
Houston, Texas 3,372 per square mile
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 11,234 per square mile
Phoenix, Arizona 2,782 per square mile
San Antonio, Texas 2,809 per square mile
San Diego, California 3,772 per square mile
Dallas, Texas 3,470 per square mile
San Jose, California 5,188 per square mile
