ENGLAND won 4-2 on penalties against SPAIN in the 1996 UEFA European Championship quarter-finals to progress to the semi-finals. the match finished 0-0 after extra time. SPAIN's Fernando Ruiz Hierro missed his spot-kick & Miguel Angel Nadal's penalty kick was saved by David Seaman of ENGLAND. unfortunately, ENGLAND lost to GERMANY in the semi-finals, ironically on penalties.
