Every fall my house is raided by ladybugs. I have used pesticides in the past but I hate doing that because they can be so harmful to humans, plus my son and I are very sensitive to them.

University studies show the best way is to vacuum them once they are in your house. However the best long term solution is to go get three tubes of caulk and a caulk gun and go around the outside of you house and fill every crack and hole that you can find. It's a lot of work but these lady bugs spend the winter between the outer wall and inner wall of your house. Once in that spaceif there are openings in the inner wall, well, then they are in your house. If they can't get between those walls your problem is solved. I get 2 or 3 a year in my house.

We have had the same problem at our office, which is in a wooded area. It was so bad the ladybugs would set off the motion detector for the alarm system! Even though the building had a foyer and double glazed, new windows, the ladybugs would find a way in. This went on for several years.

Since I hated drenching my work and living environment with pesticides, last fall I decided to scoop them up as best I could and flush them instead of releasing them.
I had a minor infestation this spring, but not the knotted swarms I had in the fall.
This year, I have a healthy crop of stink bug beetles. I have been told they eat ladybug larvae.

I suggest you physically remove all the ladybugs you can before they lay eggs. You can also use stickytraps.

I heard that they can bite you and recently read that they can eject poison if disturbed. Last year they were mainly in one corner on top of each other. I opened window and shooed them away. This year they were in a new bathroom addition and I opened the window and shooed them again. I noticed this morning that there were about 7, so I opened the window, alter on in the morning, I went into our front bedroom and there were about twelve. They are getting to me and my husband is getting annoyed that I 'report' to him when I see the numbers increasing. I do not want to hurt them but I am now finding them on various things in the bathroom and have to take a second look before I pick anything up. Sometimes they are walking across my bedroom covers. ANY ADVICE ? THANK YOU

'college' is right on the mark, in my opinion. these insects do no harm, they are simply looking for a safe place to overwinter. they don't carry disease, they don't eat our food, generally, they don't bite or make us itch. they are a nuisance, not a danger. personally i just let them be here, but i don't get as many as some people, i guess... why that is i don't know. i probably have 40 or 50 that come into my kitchen, and maybe 25 or so in my bedroom... those are the places where i burn lights the most and i think they are drawn by the warmth of the lights.
if you feel they are biting you, rest assured they aren't breaking the skin, simply testing to see if you are edible (which you aren't).

remember they are beneficial insects that eat pests... people buy them for release (which is probably one of the reasons we have too many wandering around now).

if you opt to vacuum them, be aware this doesn't kill them. i know someone that used a bagless vacuum and when he carried the container across the road to empty it, all the bugs flew out and headed back to his house. his wife couldn't stop laughing. :-)

How can you be inhumane to an insect?
It is about as much alive as a vertebrate's spinal column.
Its like being inhumane to a cabbage.
