Can't it just be possible that like other species of animal, humans and apes are just similar in characteristics?

Peter Jackson Fan is wrong... Humans weres created from dust, but there is still dust so that human see that that is all we are, it is to keep us humble... There are still catholics because they continue the old tradition, the religion Jesus Christ gave to us should never be forgotten.... and the reason for all other religions still being around is because of the corrupt world, and they all broke from christianity, so all of the religions he listed all go back to catholicism... there are still home phones because not everyone has a cell phone... there are still cd players because there are still cds, and people listen to them... etc. etc. much ignorance on his part

Evolution is only a theory.. It's not been proven... Humans did not evolve from apes... God created Adam and Eve, they were human...

Why can't people think of something original, rather than mindlessly repeating this dumb question or saying, "Evolution is just a theory"? Men and apes evolved from common ancestors. Their DNA is over 90% the same. That casts doubt upon Genesis creation, as do many other things. New creatures can co-exist with the ones from which they evolved. Only small groups change. Extreme conditions can result in extinctions and survival of the fittest. I don't see why anyone would even ask such a question, when the answer is so obvious.

If you ask your question without an evangelical bias I'll offer an answer. If this is just more 'science hating' bible thumping small mindedness then don't read further just do a little jig in anticipation of the 'rapture' - now there's some science!!!!!

Fundamentally - one has to ask 'why' humans and apes and all animals are similar in characteristics? This is because our biochemistry is more similar than it is distinct. We have the same biochemical components, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and importantly nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). This is because these substances 'flow' through an ecology on our planet and are shared within the biosphere - we are not 'isolated' from the animal kingdom and the web of life, we are embedded in it.

Evolution is not a theory - it's a FACT. Ultimately, we are made of atoms - like ALL matter in the Universe. Those atoms, derived from stars that have gone supernova, have rearranged over the aeons into complex 'evolving' patterns in the form of life - and humanity.

Those who fight the teaching of science and insist on ignorance should resort to 'faith' healing when it comes to managing disease - after all - those medicinces come from scientists - who believe and work on the principles of evolution - and therefore are to be shunned. Right?

Give me that old time religion, give me that old time religion, like the good old days of the inquisition and witch trials - that was virtuous wasn't it!

There is a common ancestor for both men and apes. The apes that are alive today are not a primitive ape, they are modern apes. All life continues to evolve. The life forms that seem to be more 'primitive' to us have just found a corner of the natural world where their primitive seeming life is best adapted. The best example of evolution in the 'modern world' is the dog. Man has forced evolution on the wolf ancestors of dogs producing many different breeds. They are all still technically wolves but have been atrifically selected to produce different charateristics in size shape color tempermant and so on. If you isolated a breed for enough time, its ability to interbreed with other dogs would eventually be lost and you would have a different animal. There are other examples all over the place. A great resource can be found here. http://tolweb.org/tree/

The neanderthal was human, but isn't our ancestor. It was a different species of humans really. Let's say that a group of humans divided in two. They moved to different areas and evolved there. It just means that apes and humans evolved in different areas.
Doesn't matter to me really because I don't believe in that stuff. It is just what I learned along the way.

Humans and apes both evolved from common ancestors, just like jews/ catholics and protestants . The reasons why apes and humans both exists is because they split into 2 different paths of evolution and for filling 2 different roles in the biosphere.

we just share similar DNA meaning that millions of generations ago we could probably have decended from the same species, meaning we share an ancestoral link. But how come humans have evolved so much, even if you look at just the last few hundred years, yet animals seem to have hardly evolved at all?

*sigh* I hate it when people think they know about evolution talk about it.

We didn't evolve from moneys. Apes and humans evolved from a common ancestor. Like you and your cousin come from a common grandparent. We still have them because we didn't replace them, apes and humans branched off of each other.

Think about this, if Adam and Eve were the first humans and they produced offspring and this is what populated the earth. Isn't that incest? Since these offspring continued to produce with one another

Man didn't evolve from apes. Men and apes share a common ancestor but developed along different lines...

While Darwin's Theory of Evolution is a relatively young archetype, the evolutionary worldview itself is as old as antiquity. Ancient Greek philosophers such as Anaximander postulated the development of life from non-life and the evolutionary descent of man from animal. Charles Darwin simply brought something new to the old philosophy -- a plausible mechanism called "natural selection." Natural selection acts to preserve and accumulate minor advantageous genetic mutations. Suppose a member of a species developed a functional advantage (it grew wings and learned to fly). Its offspring would inherit that advantage and pass it on to their offspring. The inferior (disadvantaged) members of the same species would gradually die out, leaving only the superior (advantaged) members of the species. Natural selection is the preservation of a functional advantage that enables a species to compete better in the wild. Natural selection is the naturalistic equivalent to domestic breeding. Over the centuries, human breeders have produced dramatic changes in domestic animal populations by selecting individuals to breed. Breeders eliminate undesirable traits gradually over time. Similarly, natural selection eliminates inferior species gradually over time.
and now consequently, we are wiping out the homes of these apes our cousins our ancestors and therefore proving that naturel selection/survival of the fittest is commonplace in the world in which we live. Soon the only apes left will be the apes in zoos that we choose to let live.
DOESN'T THAT MAKE YOU PROUD TO BE HUMAN!

we developed along the same line as apes - like sharing a family tree. kind of like half siblings (but not that close) where one parent is the same, but the other is different.

like lizards and snakes both evolved from the same beginnings, they just evolved into what was more suited for their situation.

there are many different animals that had the same beginnings, but their evolution up to now has made them different.
