Skirt around the edges, drop a few hints and see what happens. If you get a positive response then go fo it. If not back off and remain friends. A few drinks is always a good idea.

all depends if your old enough to drink or not. If you are, get drunk then you can always use it as a fallback excuse if it doesn't go your way.
