I live in Japan so I have been to Tokyo monay times.
I am planning to go for a week with a friend, but was looking for unconventional places in the city to experience and visit as I have done most of the guide book shrine/garden/museum stuff and been to Harajuku on a Sunday, and Akihabara with the nerds etc.
Can anyone help!!?

Try scuba diving. One of my students said she went to an area just off the coast of Tokyo and went scuba diving with dolphins. I am so sorry but I cannot remember where she said she went. Take up a new hobby. Skip town for a weekend. Chiba and Yokohama are right around the corner. Explore! That is what I love the best about being in Japan.

How about Chanko Nabe with the sumo wrestlers in Ryogoku.
Ever done that?

Or getting on the Yamanote line and getting off at random stops.
I recommend doing this on some stations on the top half of the Yamanote circle.

Did you do the whole Yakohama China town?

Or visiting the Chichibu mountains up north is nice.

Tokyo is just A city. one.
You can experience new things in different cities.
Why don't you try out Osaka or Fukuoka area instead of Tokyo?
If it's too far from the airport how about going to Chiba?
The Tateyama area is nice. Do a little hot spaing, relaxing, eating lunch by the beach. All a bit different I'm sure.

Oh and BTW, I've done Taro Shinsei's #10.
Had a shot 1 station and chased it with a beer on the next.
I went from Tamachi to Tabata before vomiting.
And then from there I took the train back holding the puke in my mouth and spitting it out everytime the doors opened at each station.
I know, gross! but my friends were having a ball.
I miss those days.

Th usual gaijin roppongi thing:
I live in Tokyo and I seem to do this only when my buddies from Miami come to Japan for meetings:
start off in Shinjuku with dinner at an izakaya. Lots of drinks and food.
Next we take a walk through Kabuki Cho and get amused with all the going on there. We stop off at the British Pub Hub for a few more drinks and try to make new friends.
around last call at the Hub we take a taxi to Roppongi and hit up a few bars. Each night, different bars have the action, so we hop around until we find what we want.
After hours we settle into a cozy bar and relax.
If hunger kicks in, we get ramen from a ramen cart, or food from one of the 24 hour gyuudon restaurants.

If you just want to skip straight to the cozy bar bit, I suggest Shimokitazawa. Just walk around and find a watering hole that suits ya.

Have you been to Kappabashi where you can buy the plastic models of food? How about the Toho facility in Kamakura where you can see the sets where samurai movies are filmed? How about the Venus mall, or Hello Kitty land? How about going to the bicycle, boat or autobike races? How about checking out some Kabukicho sleaziness? How about Tokyo's best ramen in Ogikubo? How about indoor skiing at SSAWS?

1) Eat whale steak/kara-age/sashimi at Kujiraya (it's in Shibuya, you'll see it if you go from Hachiko around the right side of 109)

2) Visit the Turkish mosque in Yoyogi-Uehara or the Russian cathedral in Ochanomizu

3) Go to the European wedding village in Odaiba.

4) Walk (or run) around the Imperial Palace. Cool stuff to look at, especially on the west side (the British embassy is rad-looking).

5) Walk through the Aoyama cemetery at night. Try not to scream.

6) Go to a maid cafe and get them to spoon-feed you curry.

7) Spend a day wandering around Yokohama (it's close enough). I recommend Minato-Mirai, then the boat to Chinatown around the next applicable mealtime.

8) Go to Takao-san (in Hachioji) or Lake Okutama (way the hell out at the end of the Ome Line).

9) Walk from Roppongi Hills to Azabu-Juban. Pretty sweet area. There's a sento along the way if you're interested in that sort of thing.

10) Go around the Yamanote Line and have a drink at every station; see how far you get (I made it from Shinjuku clockwise to Shinbashi before passing out, then waking up surrounded by my own vomit). There's a special Yamanote day pass you can buy for about 700 yen, no booze required. :)

This is NOT unusual, however, I am sure girls would love this place very much.
Spa in the center of Tokyo. But I wonder if you can be naked...

Visit here afternoon (2-3 o'clock) and enjoy dinner as well.

You can enjoy dinner at Tokyo Dome Hotel as well.
It is very close to the spa.

Sorry but Tokyo bores the crap out of me. It's just a giant clone of any other urban part of Japan..............zzzzzzzzzzzz

Okay miss thumbs down: You want something unusual to experience in Tokyo? Get really stanka$$ drunk at some overpriced hole, and later fall asleep on the subway. You'll wake up in the morning with your pants down around your ankles, no money in your pocket and no shoes (only shoes) if you're lucky. Then, you can enjoy the challenge of getting back home, like you're on your own private reality show!
