You ask a simple question on this site like "Are you a vegetarian" (which I am not) and someone answers with their presidential inauguration-type speech about people shouldn't hate on carnivores and such? This is just an example people. I am not hating on vegetarians or carnivores, but why are people so preachy early in the morning?

i just hate that whatever question you ask, you always get an answer about god.....
'what is your favourite cheese?'
'i like edam because thats what my lord tells me to like and in the bible jesus eats a lot of it'

They preach irrespective of the time...given the timezones round the world; they could have just come back from a hard and frustrating day at work, discovered their wife eating pork chops off the postmans butt in the bedroom at home, beat him and leave her that evening, then pop onto yahoo answers for stress relief AND then you ask a question about vegetarians....
All hell is let loose, and you get totally unloaded on, so to speak...such a shame! I feel sorry for you young man...

I have three viable possibilities, in fact, I would say probabilities:
1 – It allows people to 'vent' their frustrations via aggression.
2 – It substantiates their beliefs to themselves. In the instant case you've suggested, when the non-vegetarians come down on the vegetarians, it makes them feel better about their life choices. (Compensation for insecurity.)
3 – It allows males to exhibit inherent aggression to 'prove' bravery. They want to be the Alpha Male. Of course, given the ethereal anonymity of this structure, it is actually only demonstrating their cowardice. A brave man does not attack the innocent or the unsuspecting.
