Ativan (Lorazepam) is a benzodiazepine, and has largely become a pariah amongst drugs, and for good reason. I was on Ativan during the early 80s, and became addicted to it, and the procedure to wean off it was long and quite painful. Ativan addiction became somewhat of a national scandal, and general benzodiazepine addiction was recognised as a major problem within the UK.
If you have to take a tranquiliser, then Valium (Diazepam) is the safest, and then, only for short period of no longer than 2 to 3 weeks.

Within hours of taking it I was so tired and sleepy I didn't know anything, then I went on oxycodone for 3 days and then I woke up. No protracted effect.
My husband used it to have an MRI and it had no lasting effect on him either

Protracted?
I took one once when I was going through a very difficult decision that scared me very much, and my mom said I passed out and she wanted to sue the doctor who gave it to me. She couldn't coz I was an adult though and I didn't want her to.
I think I did not pass out but only went to much needed sleep.
