I taught myself how to knit with a learn to knit kit from Wal-mart, but there are also online options. Check out the site listed below for starters. If you are the type that learns from example, I suggest looking for a beginners class at your local craft store.
Once you have the basics, search for a knitting group in your area. Getting together with a group that shares your interest is rewarding, and can be very helpful. Knitters love to pass on their knowledge.

The public library would have a wide assortment of
books on how to knit. You can even check the
enternet on how to knit. Many department stores
have self help books to purchase. Even the thift
shops might have some books that would even
give you an idea on a project to do at a reasonable
price. Material and yarn shops even offer courses
if you want one on one assistance. Check in
your neighbourhood, I bet there is someone that
has knitted and would love to help you. Have fun
knitting is a great craft.

Books from a library aren't always the best way to learn. Go to your local fabric store and see if you can sign up for a class. Also, sometimes your local town will offer Adult Ed classes on knitting and crochet. Also, go to your local Senior Center or Assisted Living facility; you would be amazed at the amount of people who have nothing to do all day and would love to teach you and make a friend. Good luck.

Self teaching is the best way to learn I learnt to knit when I was about 9. I was knitting my own school cardigans when I was 12.
Or you could find a craft class where you live, or someone who knows how. GOOD LUCK

I think it's easiest to learn a skill like knitting by watching over someone's shoulder. There are some very good videos showing how to do the basics at http://www.theknittingsite.com/
It's a great fun activity, enjoy your knitting!

Try this web site - it is fantastic and full of free video clips showing how to knit. I tried to learn from several books, but it was this site that really helped me to learn how to knit and I still go back when I want to learn new techniques.

If you prefer 1-1 tuition, John Lewis do knitting classes or search the web for a local "stitch n *****" group near you.

You might laugh, but I bet if you put an ad in the local newspaper someone from a retirement home would teach you and be glad of the company. They love boiled sweets too, which could suffice as part payment. When I used to visit my gran some of the people looked so bored, and I bet most of them could knit.
