I am moving to New York (from London) next month, and I am not sure whether to take my laptop with me or not. I am worried that since it is not the same voltage over there, my laptop may not like it.... It is quite old and fragile ;) could I get the advice of specialists?

Your laptop will work with no problems.
I have taken mine previously.

For your own piece of mind though..............

Look at the label on the underside of the charging unit for your laptop. On this you will find a decription titled 'Input'. This will probably read 110V - 240V or something similar. This indicates that it is able to operate at both the 110 volts used in the USA and 240 volts used in the UK.

Another little tip.........the first time I visited the US, I forgot to bring an adapter. I visited every 'Radio shak' and couldn't get an adapter converting from UK socket to US. Plenty available converting the other way, USA to UK.
Take one with you.

I'd agree with MB, luv.

Isn't any reason whatsoever why yon English Laptop won't work in USA; since they do have the autosense utility, innit?

However, considering that it's old ... you might consider getting yourself a new one, luv.

Oh, and by the way, the American keyboards are quite different to the English ones and you'd need to get used to them when you're there.

All the best.

Cheers.

By all means, bring it with you. There are adapters you can purchase to meet your voltage requirements. Even if you decide to buy a new laptop, you may want to transfer data from your old one; and that'll be a whole lot easier to do if your old one is in the same country as you ;-) GOOD LUCK And Welcome!

Laptops autosense the voltage and will carry on working in the USA just as in the UK. All you'll need is a plug adaptor to be able to connect your UK 3pin plug to an electrical outlet in the US.

There should be no problem whatsoever in taking your laptop to the US. Mine has been all over the world with me and I assure you if it can function in places where even the electricity has an attitude, places like Baku, Tashkent and Mostar then yours should have no problems in the US.

bring your laptop with you. voltage adapters are easy to come by...just look for the ones that go from 110 to 220 volts and vice versa.

good luck

Go to your nearest computer store, and they should have an adapter for you to use.
