17th

note: I already see one wrong answer, so maybe some explanation is needed...

It is now the 21st century, the year 2006
1900 - 1999 = the 20th century
1800 - 1899 = the 19th century
etc. etc.
0 - 99 = the 1st century

The century is always 1 number high than the first 2 digits, for example 1663 (first two numbers being 16) it would be the 17th Century.

No one has given you the reason why the centuries always are given 1 year ahead. The answer is simply really.

We have BC (Pre-Christian) and AD (post Christian). BC counts backwards from the start of Christianity. 200 BC is 200 years before Christianity is established. As 300 BC is 300 years before, it is before 200 BC.

After Christianity is established, we start counting forwards - 200 years after Christianity is 200 AD. But as all things must have a beginning, there had to be a time when Christianity is only a few months old. So as a century is a space of 100, from years 0 to 99, is the first century that Christianity existed. 100 – 199 is the second century. So on and so on, until you get to 1600 – 1699, which is the 17th century since the existence of Christianity.

Hi >
1663 was in the seventeenth century. According to the Gregorian calender, just as we are now in the 21st century AD, since 2000.
Of course the Islamic and Chinese calendars differ in what was year zero. And on which day.
For example, if you adjust for the changes made by Gregory, Christian Christmas day is actually in March now.
Where I used to live in the Mid-East, I was some -400 years old.
All good fun.

Easy. 17th century.

Just add all the numbers together, and then add 1 for the answer, 1 + 6 + 6 + 3 = 16 + 1 = 17.

Oh God...
You take first two (16) and add 1 ; 16+1 = 17th century.
If we have year 966 - 9+1= 10th cent.
And what if we have year 25 :>?
It is the 1th :)
BUT, btw - year 2000 was still 20th century, of course. Till 2001 we have 21
